Full Backup (Suggested Monthly)
A full backup is a complete backup of the account including email addresses etc. This backup uses a large amount of bandwidth and storage so this is suggested as a monthly backup.
- Go to the control panel of the website.
- http://www.mywebsite.com/cpanel
- Enter your username and password.
- Click the ‘Backups’ icon generally located in the second row.
- Click ‘Generate/Download a Full Backup’ link.
- Make sure that ‘Backup Destination’ dropdown box is set to ‘Home Directory’.
- Enter in your valid email address
- Click ‘Generate Backup’ button.
- You can now either
- Click ‘[ Go Back ]’. Then click refresh every now and then, waiting for the backup to complete. You will see the ‘In Progress’ vanish. or
- Wait till you receive email confirmation, then follow steps 1 to 4.
- Click the correctly dated backup to download it to your computer
Website Backup (Suggested Weekly)
This backup only backups the website data and database, and can be performed as often as needed. An E-Commerce site should be performed weekly. This backup will use bandwidth only.
- Go to the control panel of the website.
- http://www.mywebsite.com/cpanel
- Enter your username and password.
- Click the ‘Backups’ icon generally located in the second row.
- Click ‘Download a home directory Backup’ under the heading ‘Home Directory’ to download the data.
- Click the database (either the name of the site or ‘db’) under the heading ‘Download a MySQL Database Backup’ to download the database.
Post Backup
Check that your downloaded copy made it to your computer. You may even want to have an offsite copy of your backups. It would be a good idea to burn your website backups to a cd.
